If you think you could do the same today, you are delusional. At 73, that means you were born in 1945 and entered the workforce in about 1965....and retired in about 2005. You really could not have timed it any better.

Life is much harder today than it was 50 years a ago from a financial stand point. A man could work a normal job and support a family of 4 or 5 with no college degree. My wife and I each make almost $90k with just a 2 year degree (nursing and software development). We didn’t start with that salary of course but my point is it’s not that difficult to learn a skill that can earn you a decent living.
